Autism Screening
AQ-10
This is the Autism Spectrum Quotient, 10-item version. It was developed by Simon Baron-Cohen and is the standard screening tool used in NHS referral pathways. Ten questions, about 3 minutes.
Before you start
Some of these questions might feel obvious. Some might feel oddly specific. That is by design. Do not overthink it — go with the answer that feels most true most of the time.
There are no right or wrong answers. This is not a test you pass or fail. It is a tool that helps you and your GP decide whether a full assessment is worth doing.
Important
- This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.
- A high score does not mean you are autistic. A low score does not mean you are not.
- Only a qualified clinician can diagnose autism.
- If you score above the threshold, speak to your GP about a referral.
